This beautiful outfit represents the village of Nebaj, Quiche. It was hand woven on a back-strap loom. The ensemble is topped with an elaborate headdress skillfully wrapped into the hair.
The Nebaj woman's costume is one of the most striking in Guatemala, and has won top awards in international pageants of traditional costume. A red corte or skirt, with color stripes, is held up by a woven faja (belt or sash).
